St. Martin Deputies Searching for Horse Abuse Suspects

Posted: Updated:

KLFY-TV10 is working with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office to find the suspects responsible for dumping a total of four extremely malnourished and neglected horses near Coteau Holmes and along the Bayou Alexander Highway.  Here's the official statement from the St. Martin Sheriff's Department, with more on how you can help.

***************************************************************************

(St. Martinville, La.)- Late yesterday afternoon three horses in near death condition were dropped off on the Levee between Coteau Holmes and Catahoula.  This afternoon, another horse was abandoned in the 1200 block of Bayou Alexander Hwy. These horses were suffering from severe neglect and malnutrition and were in need of immediate medical attention.  Two of the horses had to be euthanized due to the severe condition they were in. It is against the law to abandon animals and those who do so will face criminal charges.  Those individuals who abandoned the horses on the levee face three counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, and three counts of Horses at Large.  For the horse that was abandoned this afternoon, the charges will be one count of Simple Cruelty to Animals and one count of Horse at Large.

Anyone with information as to the identity of these individuals responsible for abandoning these animals is asked to contact to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office at (337) 394-3071.
