Councilman Brandon Shelvin didn't expect to get so many people talking trash about his proposal to end mandatory recycling fees in the city of Lafayette.
But, shelvin says he feels that if you don't use the service, you shouldn't have to pay for it. Shelvin says this proposal was crafted after he realized that the recycling foundation was owned by Progressive Waste Solutions, a company that filed a lawsuit against the Lafayette Consolidated Government after a permit to build a waste transfer station was voided by the council.
