Major Dog Food Recall Issued

  There's been another pet food recall issued, once again due to possible Salmonella contamination in the Diamond South Carolina plant.   This time around, the brand is Apex.

Although there have been no illnesses related to Apex Dog Food, and the product has not tested positive for Salmonella, Apex Pet Foods is recalling all dry dog food formulas manufactured on January 24, 2012, just in case. The food was distributed in South Carolina.

If you're not sure if your bag of Apex food is included in the recall, or if you want a replacement product or a refund, contact Apex Pet Foods at 1-866-918-8756, Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST. The company is working with distributors and retailers to ensure all recalled product is removed from shelves as soon as possible.

Pets with Salmonella infections may show…

  • diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
  • fever
  • vomiting

Some pets may only experience a decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has had any of the affected products or is experiencing any of these symptoms, immediately contact your veterinarian.
