School dress Code Changes

This upcoming school year students are getting break. A number of restrictions on dress codes have been eliminated or modified.

The Lafayette Parish School Board has approved the following line items for parish schools at the high school level the only restriction on body decorations and piercings is that they're not vulgar or profane.

Sock color and length requirements have been eliminated. Hair color must be natural. Originally, for boys the hair length couldn't touch the shirt collar nor could boys wear earrings.

Now, they can wear earrings and hair length can be any length. Hoodies are allowed - but the hoods must come off in the classroom.

Restrictions on belts and tucked shirts are being left to the principal's discretion, and for elementary and middle school students the only piercing allowed is earrings.

Coming soon are new restrictions on bullying. Governor Jindal recently signed a bill. It places a statewide ban on bullying at all Louisiana schools.
