The mayor of Kaplan is on a mission that will impact all of Vermilion Parish. Mayor Kirk Champagne wants all bars to close at the same time, at 2:00 AM

Champagne says Kaplan's bars close at 2:00 PM and he'd like other bars to follow suit. He says it would prevent dangerous bar hopping. Champagne says his proposal is inspired by 24 year old Pete Johnson. The Kaplan man died over the weekend in a wreck. He was riding passenger.

Champagne says he's reached out to two Vermilion police jurors who are on board. Champagne plans to present his idea at a parish meeting next Wednesday. Authorities say the driver was allegedly drunk.
