Acadiana's strong ties to France just got a little tighter as French Ambassador Mr François Delattre visited several spots throughout the area. Mr. Delatte attended a lecture and meeting with French citizens residing here in Acadiana at the Lafayette Science Museum Thursday.
His day was been jam packed with events, but one of the more important that a stop in the small town of Leroy.
Mr. Lorcey Sonnier of Leroy was given the highest Medal of Honor by the French Ambassador. Sonnier born in 1924 helped fight for the liberation of France during World War II, and still recalls his days in the air.
Having the French Ambassador honor Sonnier was a highlight for the 88 year olds friends and family.
The French Ambassadors trip with continued with a meet and greet of Lafayette parish Officials, then on to a fundraiser at UL's Alumni House and finally a presentation at the LITE Center.
