LPD Officer Laid to Rest

Thursday Lafayette Police paid tribute to one of their own. Family and friends said goodbye to Officer Joel Grayson.

Funeral Services began in the morning followed by a procession to Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Grayson died Saturday after a boating accident in Lake Maurepas. He was 29-years-old.

Grayson served the department for nearly six years. During that time he earned LPD's highest honor; The Medal of Valor.




Lafayette Police Officer Dies In Boating Accident


Lafayette Police are mourning the loss of one of their own today.

Saturday Corporal Joel Grayson died in a boating accident on Lake Maurepas.


Grayson was a five and a half year veteran of the department. Corporal Grayson was assigned as a member of the Crime Suppression Unit and an operator on the LPD S.W.A.T team.

He was a recipient of the Lafayette Police Department's most prestigious honor, the Medal of Valor. The Lafayette Police Department respectfully offers its condolences and support to Joel Grayson's wife and family. Grayson was 29.
