OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - St. Landry Parish sales tax collections continued to climb in May, fast approaching two years of solid growth.
According to figures released this week by the St. Landry Parish School Board, which tracks the parish's sale tax numbers, the May collections jumped 6 percent.
The Daily World reports (http://bit.ly/NNeagP ) this marks the 17th straight month that collections have exceeded the total collected in the same month the year before.
Among the positive communities were both Eunice and Opelousas, the parish's two largest economies.
Eunice's collects grew by 3 percent in May, while Opelousas was up 4.5 percent.
Opelousas Mayor Donald Cravins said that consistency is a good sign.
