Acadiana's News Leader Jeff Davis School Grant

Jeff Davis School Grant

More than a million dollars could be coming to schools in Jeff Davis Parish, to help improve education.

The Jeff Davis Parish School Board is applying for a $1.5 million dollar "literacy grant". The money is aimed at bringing stronger literacy skills to students. If the Jennings application is approved, $1.5 million would be funneled into programs at James Ward Elementary, Jennings Elementary and Jennings High School. The 1.5 million dollars is for a two year program, and the money would be used for reading specialists, software programs and other technologies that will improve literacy. Jeff Davis School Superintendent, David Clayton, says the grant is a great thing for all of the students in Jeff Davis who are lacking in literacy. The winners of the grant should be named in March, but the money wouldn't be implemented until August.
