Animal Shelter Changes

A disturbing photo circulating on the Internet has prompted some big changes at the Crowley City Animal Shelter. It all began with a little hound mix, now named Duke.  The emaciated puppy was rescued last week from the Crowley City Animal Shelter. Volunteers claim that when he entered the facility the first week of November, he was healthy.

But, when photos began circulating last week that showed him sick and malnourished, a local rescue group pulled Duke from the shelter. After a veterinarian determined he had no other health issues other than malnutrition, he was put into the care of a foster family.

Crowley Mayor Greg Jones was unable to give us an on camera interview, but he told TV10's Blue Rolfes that all animals are fed and watered daily, and the facility is heated. He also says animal control workers maintain that Duke came into the shelter last week, and not last month. But he did say a new policy requires animal control officers to photograph every animal as it enters the shelter.
