Lafayette, LA – AcA brings you the very best in contemporary Jazz from around the world. Join us as we turn AcA's James Devin Moncus Theater into a New York City-style Jazz club with the Rondi Charleston Quintet Saturday, October 29 at 8:00 p.m.
Rondi Charleston is an outstanding contemporary jazz singer and brilliant songwriter. Downbeat Magazine explains, "Rondi Charleston is one of those rare artists from whom a songs meaning is as important as its melody. Her personal, thought-provoking, original songs slow the heartbeat and raise the mental senses with a documentarian's acuity."
The Chicago-bred Julliard-trained Charleston has had a unique career that flawlessly relates to the sense of observation and questioning she incorporates into her songs. She worked as an opera singer and later earned a master's degree at New York University's School of Journalism and later became an investigative reporter for ABC News. This vocal ingénue amassed Emmy and a Peabody Award for her work on Primetime Live with Diane Sawyer while moonlighting as a vocalist and finally embracing music full time.
Timeless, sophisticated, intoxicating, smart and irresistible all describe the extraordinary collection of material Rondi brings to her live performances. You don't want to miss this extraordinary night of Jazz!
