The city council in Ville Platte has suspended their walking curfew. Officials believe the restriction helped keep crime in check but a pending lawsuit made it difficult to enforce. Once the ACLU stepped in, Ville Platte City Officials chose to suspend their curfew rather than face a potential legal battle.
But, the mayor says there could still be life for this controversial ordinance. Mayor Jenifer Vidrine says more than 25 people showed up to Tuesday night's meeting to support the curfew. She claims the ordinance has always had the support of the majority of residents because it helped curb crime which had been a major issue.
She says despite the support, officials had no choice but to suspend the ordinance for adults at least for now. So while the curfew for adults has been lifted the curfew for minors is still in place and for adults out after 10PM you do still need the reflective gear.
