METAIRIE, La. (AP) - Saints quarterback Drew Brees says he expects Nick Toon to be a "big contributor" this season. Brees says that's why he's been calling Toon aside during practice recently to discuss the young receiver's route running. Toon is a former Wisconsin star and the son of former New York Jets All-Pro Al Toon.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Alabama and LSU both placed 11 players on the coaches' preseason All-Southeastern Conference teams. The SEC teams released on Thursday had representatives from all 14 teams and half of them had seven or more selections. The SEC season opens Thursday, Aug. 28 with No. 9 South Carolina facing Texas A&M in the first game on the new SEC Network.

(AP) - Brandon McCarthy pitched a four-hitter and the New York Yankees avoided a three-game sweep, beating the Houston Astros 3-0 Thursday. New York won for just the third time in 10 games. Chase Headley hit an early two-run double and the Yankees backed McCarthy with flawless fielding.

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) - Brad Keselowski earned his first NASCAR Truck Series win on Thursday. Keselowski passed defending champion Kyle Busch with 75 laps to go and held off Busch's teammate Darrell Wallace Jr. in the UNOH 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
