NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Reform efforts at the New Orleans jail are moving slowly while inmates and staff "continue to face grave harm." That's the report from a court-appointed monitor. However, Sheriff Marlin Gusman said he's committed to the court-ordered reforms. Gusman said his office is in final negotiations to contract with a new mental health and medical care provider.
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A watchdog group says the city of New Orleans should sell an empty office tower by the Mississippi River. The city had reached a tentative lease agreement last year with Gatehouse Capital Corp. to redevelop the old World Trade Center building. But negotiations broke off in April.
