Beignets

 

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle (48 ounces) oil
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/3 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups flour to roll out dough

Method:

  • Fill a deep pot 1/2 to 2/3 full with oil
  • Turn on medium flame or stove setting and let oil heat while you make the dough
  • Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar
  • Blend in egg and milk and form into a ball of dough
  • Roll it out
  • Pat dough to 1/2-inch thickness
  • Cut in 2-inch squares and fry in hot oil
  • Flip once
  • Should turn golden brown when done
  • Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar before serving
  • Best if served warm
  • Serves 6 to 8
