Segura Sentenced in Students Murder at Beaver Park

Forty six-year-old Jose Luis Segura Junior has been sentenced to 40 years in prison in the death of a UL Lafayette student. Twenty two year old Allen Aucoin Junior's body was discovered inside the women's restroom at Beaver Park in Lafayette in January of 2010.

Segura was originally charged with second degree murder but a jury convicted him of manslaughter in November later that year. At the hearing Segura pled his innocence and claimed someone name "Richard" killed Aucoin.

Segura pleaded with District Judge Patrick Michot for a new trial which he denied. Segura is a convicted felon from Texas who was released on parole in 2008.


Update:  Beaver Park Murder

Police in Lafayette have now identified the victim of a weekend homicide and arrested the person they believe is responsible for the crime.

Jose Luis Segura, Junior of Texas is behind bars, charged with first degree murder.

This, after the body of Allen Aucoin Junior of New Iberia was discovered over the weekend inside the women's bathroom at Beaver Park.

Police tell us Aucoin died from a bullet wound to his upper abdomen.

Police say they have also recovered the victim's missing vehicle. Officers recovered Aucoin's SUV on Webb Street.


Body Found in Beaver Park

Lafayette Police are investigating a homicide, after a man was found dead at Beaver Park.

Police officials tell us a white male was discovered dead inside the women's bathroom at the park around 3:00 PM Sunday afternoon.

He was found by some people playing tennis in the area, and police tell us he died from a bullet wound to his upper abdomen.

Police say they need your help in solving this crime.

 "We're asking anyone who was in or around the park at the time that the call came in, with any information at all, please call crime stoppers at 232-TIPS or Lafayette Police" said Corporal Randall Leger with the Lafayette police Department.

Police have identified the victim, but his vehicle is missing. They're looking for a 1999 white Chevy Suburban, which has damage to the front bumper and chrome rims. The plate number is KHA-792.
