George Faust has been Sports Director at KLFY since June of 2005. Prior to that, George was Weekend Sports Anchor at TV 10 from 2003 - 2005. Before joining Acadiana's Local Sports Leader, he worked at KPLC-TV station in Lake Charles, LA. George also worked in Meridian, MS at WMDN-TV, and in Columbus, MS at WCBI-TV. You can watch George on weekday editions of Eyewitness News at 6 &10. He anchors the award winning High School Football Show: 1st and Ten, and Louisiana Open Extra, a special on the Nationwide Tour event in Broussard. Under George's guidance, Eyewitness Sports created the first High School Basketball Show in Acadiana. It's called Full Court Press!
His journalism career began long before his graduation from The University of Mississippi where he earned a Broadcast Journalism Degree, and a minor in Southern Studies. George has been in the "business" since he was senior at Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, LA, in part thanks to an internship at WWL Radio, and WWL-TV in New Orleans.During his career, he has served as both a sports anchor/reporter, and a news reporter. By far, the thrill of his career, so far, is being able to cover the 2009-2010 New Orleans Saints along the journey to the franchise's first Super Bowl Championship. "Being in Miami for the Saints first Super Bowl win is a life-long dream for me," remembers George. George's chance to conduct a one-on-one interview with Golf Legend Jack Nicklaus ranks up there, also. Not to mention, (but I'll do it anyway) the experience of traveling to cover the 2006-2007 Saints' journey through the playoffs. Those are just a few of the highlights during his tenure in sports. As for news, George's most intriguing news interview came when he spoke with James Meredith, the first black student at Ole Miss. But, perhaps the biggest story was the coverage of Hurricane Katrina. After Katrina, George volunteered to go to New Orleans the day of the storm. "As a native New Orleanian, I could not believe what I was seeing in the aftermath of this horrific event," said George.
George won a Communicator Award for his work on the show, "Ole Miss Football" with David Cutcliffe, and has won numerous A.P. awards during his career. Once he takes off the mic, it's off to the tee box, so don't be surprised if you see him chasing those birdies on the golf course.
George is a die-hard New Orleans Saints fan. His favorite baseball team is the Chicago Cubs. When he's not watching sports, he looks forward to spending time with his wife, Cassidy, their son, Parker, and their newest addition, daughter, Savannah!
