Inmates Donate Handmade Pet Beds to Animal Rescue

Inmates at the Lafayette Parish jail are "going green" while helping stray and abandoned animals.

Inmates in the Jail Industries Program visited Lafayette Animal Control this week to donate pet beds they constructed, by recycling worn or unusable inmate uniforms.

The beds were the brainchild of Jail Industries Manager Lt. Cynthia Canezaro.

"We have so many uniforms, and we use our uniforms and we wash, wash and wash them, and they get old, and we tend to throw them away, and she came up with ways to recycle the uniforms and make them into pet beds." says Canezaro.

The jail industries program is offering the recycled pet beds to area animal rescue organizations.

If you'd like more information on the program, call the Lafayette Sheriff's office at 231-6365, extension 239.
