Jazmin Thibodeaux - A husband and wife are dead after a double shooting in St. Landry Parish.
Deputies were called to the home in the 700 block of Glen Street around 6:00 a.m. Tuesday morning.
"We were on the scene fast. Detectives were dispatched. The crime scene was controlled and the result in the investigation. The initial indication is that this was a murder-suicide of husband and wife," says Lietenant Clay Higgins, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Spokesman.
Higgins identified the husband as Avery Jones (48). Witnesses say Jones fatally shot his wife, Indra Marie Q. Sarong-Jones (36), after a heated argument and later turned the gun on himself. Higgins says this is not the first time authorities have been called to the home.
"Not necessarily between husband and wife, but the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's office has responded about four times over the course of the last year to some sort of a disturbance at that residence," say Higgins.
Family members at the scene say Jones' son and his girlfriend were home at the time of the shooting. They say the two of them were awaken by the gunshot to find Jones in a separate room where he admitted to shooting his wife.
Matthew Lazaro has been Jones' neighbor for nearly 10 years and mentioned he was shocked to hear this happened in their quiet neighborhood.
"They were real good people and stuff. I did mechanic work on their vehicles and stuff. They were good people. It was just shocking to hear what had taken place down the street over there," said Lazaro.
Lazaro says the family usually kept to themselves. "I just saw them recently and it's just shocking. I sympathize for them because what they have to go through to come home to see something, to have something happened to them like that."
This shooting is still under investigation.
