Driver arrested for third OWI on You Winn Road

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY)- Deputies said 39-year-old Barry Handy had a suspended license when he was pulled over with a half a bottle of alcohol in the his vehicle.

Handy was pulled over on Friday night on You Winn Road in Moss Bluff for a traffic violation.

Authorities said alcohol could be detected on the suspect's breath and the alcoholic beverage was in plain view in the passengers seat.

"The deputy then learned Handy had a suspended driver’s license for a prior DWI," the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office said. Handy, who had been convicted of two OWIs in the last 10 years, failed the breathalyzer test and was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.

He faces charged of DWI 3rd, operating a vehicle under suspension and a traffic violation.

Handy’s bond was set at $10,750 with special conditions being he cannot operate a vehicle without an ignition interlock device and a valid driver’s license and he may not possess any alcohol.
