Grand Coteau Police Chief Under Scrutiny

Police Chief Margaret Coco was certainly the center of attention at Grand Coteau's Town hall meeting Monday night.  Not only was she being attacked by some citizens on policing the town.  But some council members even questioned the Police Chief herself on her methods of communicating with the media.

According to council members, the Chief doesn't always send press releases when supposed to. But when TV 10 asked the Chief why she doesn't, her reply was;

"I'm gonna continue to give you a news release through the mail whenever something occurs."

TV 10 did receive a press release Monday morning from the Chief on a weekend shooting. But that's not always the case. Several months ago, money went missing from the Town Hall and the only information we were able to get was from council members.

Also, a few weeks back a rash of burglaries hit the town but we didn't receive anything on that either.

Councilman Pamela Barriere tells us she wants the Chief to be more consistent with sending press releases in order for the public to stay informed with what's happening in Grand Coteau.

"At the beginning she wasn't doing a good job with that but after tonight, she did say she had faxed the releases to you and she gave us documents. It wasn't in a timely manner but at least she's starting to do something" said Barriere.

We also spoke to citizens who share the same concerns. They feel like there certainly is a lot of crime happening in their town and some light needs to be shed on the situation.
