Nursing Students Recognized

During the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Lafayette saw an influx of evacuees in the Cajundome.

On the second day the Cajundome was open, 48 UL-Lafayette nursing students showed up to help.

The students helped the Red Cross take care of people in need of some type of medical attention.

Monday, the Red Cross acknowledged those 48 individual students for their hard work.

The students came in and assessed the need of elder patients, younger patients, and even children.

The work they did helped take the burden off of the local emergency rooms.

Each student worked at least ten hours to several days.
