The U.S. Marshal's Service is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of convicted killer, Richard Lee McNair.

McNair escaped earlier this week from a detention center in Pollack by hiding inside a postal van as it left the prison grounds.

A short time later, McNair was spotted a few miles south of the prison, in Tioga.

And Thursday, police in Ball, Louisiana, which is just north of Tioga, spotted McNair running and stopped to question him.

But McNair was able to convince the officer he was just out for a jog and the officer let him go.

Friday, the search shifted to the Pineville area, where lawmen have been going door-to-door.

With the sound of helicopters beating overhead, an army of heavily-armed lawmen from a half-dozen different law enforcement agencies are literally beating the bushes for convicted murderer, Richard Lee McNair.

In this largely rural area, it's tough going.

Using four-wheelers and dogs, lawmen, armed with automatic weapons, are going door-to-door at hunting camps and homes looking for any signs of the escapee who has already proven he is no fool.

Area residents are understandably nervous, but others are interested in cashing in on the reward being offered for McNair's capture.

As of Friday night, lawmen are continuing to search the Pineville area in hopes they can capture McNair before he is able to get his hands on a car and get clear of the search area.

In addition to be a convicted murderer, McNair is also a martial arts expert and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the U.S. Marshal Service at 318-676-4200 or call 911.
