NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The number of Louisiana public school students performing at grade level has inched up from 68% to 69% in the latest round of standardized test scores. Education Superintendent John White said more than half the state's districts saw improvement overall.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Attempts to raise tuition at Louisiana's public colleges appear dead for the session. Rep. Walt Leger says he is shelving his proposal to let the campuses raise tuition according to a plan devised by the Board of Regents. Leger says he doesn't have the two-thirds support required to pass the bill.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Police say three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of carjacking a New Orleans judge outside his home. New Orleans police spokeswoman Remi Braden says the suspects allegedly confronted Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Judge Frank Marullo last night, stole his wallet and drove off in his Mercedes-Benz before crashing the car.

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Eleven American Red Cross volunteers from Louisiana have left to help residents of Moore, Okla., following a devastating tornado there. Community chapters executive Tony Credeur tells The Advertiser the group will help with mass care and sheltering.
