LGEC is fully equipped with High Definition procedure rooms – and have been since 2007. Our physicians have the most experience in the state on the advantages and capabilities of this technology and how the patient benefits from it.
LGEC has been awarded the designation of a "Recognized Unit for Quality Endoscopy" by the ASGE (American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) – the only unit to have received this recognition in the Southeastern United States.
LGEC is accredited by AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare), which means we contract with the accreditation organization to come into our facility and inspect every area of our business and certify that we adhere to the highest level of quality and safety in the services we provide to our patients. We are the only outpatient endoscopy center in the Acadiana area to have achieved this accreditation.
LGEC has established itself as a leader in move for the reporting of outcomes in endoscopy to establish a databank providing patients the ability to see how their physician ranks in the measurement of quality endoscopy. A two year research paper completed in the facility on the increase in polyp detection rates with high definition colonoscopy was published and presented at DDW (Digestive Disease Week) in Chicago in 2009. This study has received national recognition, which resulted in a CNN crew filming a segment here in the center, as well as requests for Dr. Abshire, an author of the study to write other articles and speak at medical meetings and community awareness events on colon cancer screening and the benefits of high definition examinations.
