HOUMA, La. (AP) - Residents in the Terrebonne Parish town of Gray say this week's flooding rains are evidence that a controversial residential and commercial development should be stopped.
A Mississippi-based developer plans to build the development just north of the nearly 190 homes in an existing residential area. But residents of the existing homes say the new development will lead to more runoff from new streets and driveways and more flooding, according to a story in The Courier of Houma.
An owner of property where the development is planned says the developers will follow parish drainage guidelines and that plans include drainage retention ponds. That landowners says the development will have "zero impact."
