State police say the pedestrian who was run over by a car Saturday night in New Iberia is a 13 year old boy.

Troopers tell us the teenage victim, Emile Williams was walking in the roadway on Highway 674 east of New Iberia near Admiral Doyle when he was run over.

Investigators say Williams was wearing dark clothing and was walking in a dark area at the time of the crash.

He was pronounced dead on scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner.

The vehicle fled the scene; however it wasn't long before troopers found the driver they believed to be involved in the crash.

Troopers say 26 year old Jamul sparrow was interviewed and confessed to the crime.

Sparrow has been charged with a hit and run, obstruction of justice, simple criminal damage to property, and driving under suspension.
