The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office was hard at work Thursday, as deputies and undercover agents delivered warrants for the arrests of those involved with drugs.
As the sun went down in Abbeville, so did a major drug bust, vermilion Parish Sheriff Deputies hit the streets with one major goal in mind.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon: "We're taking approximately 15-18 drug dealers off the street which consists of about 30 warrants."
Those unsuspecting dealers had a laundry list of charges against them.
Sheriff Couvillon: "Distribution of cocaine, distribution of marijuana, cultivation of marijuana, distribution of Xanax, and distribution of Hydrocodone."
Deputies and undercover agents ran the bust in the Abbeville and Kaplan area at time when most people were returning home from work. The bust netted eight arrests.
Along with serving warrants, the sheriff himself caught one guy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Sheriff Couvillon: "We observed this individual walking away from a group of people with something in his hand. When we approached him, advised him who we were and asked him what he had in his hand, he handed us a bag with several rocks of suspected cocaine."
Sheriff Couvillon tells us he felt like he was going back to his roots, as a narcotics agent with state police.
Sheriff Couvillon: "Actually feels good to do police work again."
Sheriff Couvillon tells us the drug problem in Vermilion Parish is familiar to that of in other parishes, but he intends to tackle it till all the drug dealers are out of the parish or in jail.
