Breaux Bridge Growth

Posted:

The quaint town of Breaux Bridge is gradually getting larger, as more people and businesses move into the area.

The downtown area is quickly growing, while still maintaining its small town charm.

David Buck's dream to put an antique mall in his hometown of Breaux Bridge is now a reality, but the businessman didn't stop there.

David Buck: "The building just looked so sad just sitting there and so disrepaired and the building has a lot of good features to it." Residents say the town features just about everything, but there are some more additions that could be made.

The addition of Buck and Johnnie's Pizza Place, along with the antique mall, are signs that the economy in Breaux Bridge is thriving, despite the condition of the national economy.

Johnny Raymond: "Breaux Bridge is destined to be much larger than it is now."

But, locals say that even though Breaux Bridge may be growing, chain stores and other big city shops won't be calling it home.

Lori Gauther: "We're kinda missing some of the specialty shops that Lafayette has for certain things, such as specialty foods. I know that I love to cook and sometimes our local places don't have it."

Another addition residents hope for is more parking, so those going to the city wide garage sale or zydeco breakfast can park close to downtown.

Along with converting the old Domingue building into an antique shop, he'll also be opening up a pizza parlor on the corner with his good friend Johnnie Raymond.
