There is new information about the inmate who died shortly after being taken to university medical center last week.
A spokesman for the department says the assistant coroner is reporting he found no visible signs of trauma or a physical altercation on the body of Henry Goodwin.
Goodwin died October 11th at UMC after complaining of back and stomach pains in the jail.
But no mention of Goodwin's death was made until the inmates family contacted Eyewitness News.
Reached for comment District Attorney Mike Harson says he is monitoring the case.
Harson says one option is to ask the state police to conduct an investigation.
But Harson says until he sees the autopsy results any such request would be premature.
An investigation is now underway into the death of another inmate from the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
Earlier this week 33 year old Henry Goodwin was rushed to University Medical Center after complaining of back and stomach pains.
Goodwin died shortly after spending a day and a half in the hospital. Authorities say an investigation is ongoing into the death - with no official cause as of yet.
Less than a month ago another inmate was found hanging in his cell.
