Simsboro receives grant for housing

Associated Press - October 12, 2009 8:14 AM ET

SIMSBORO, La. (AP) - The village of Simsboro will receive a $134,397 housing preservation grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The grant, part of a nationwide $9.8 million disbursement from the Department of Rural Development, will go toward renovating and repairing 10 low income single housing units. The USDA's housing preservation grants aim to ensure rural single and multifamily housing stocks are adequate, meet current safety standards and are accessible by people with disabilities.

The state's rural development office said the village of Simsboro would be responsible for accepting applications, selecting eligible recipients on a first come, first served basis and supervising all renovation work. A third party inspects the work upon completion.
