After a shockingly violent attack, the St Landry Parish Sheriff is releasing a statement as to how an arrest was made so quickly, but he's not the only one speaking out about the crime.

Tuesday night on Eyewitness news at 10, the brave victim spoke only to KLFY.

But now TV10's Jason Newton brings us powerful words from the elderly woman's family.

After the brutal rape of their 80 year old relative in Lawtell, a thankful family is happy an arrest has been made, while still trying to comprehend the heinous crime.

"We're happy it's resolved. But it's also very bittersweet because of what he's done to this innocent woman. Personally I feel he doesn't deserve to see another day" said the victims grandmother.

After presenting the suspect with the evidence against him, St Landry Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says Brian Malveaux confessed to his crimes. Guidroz went on to say it's not often such a serious crime is committed and an arrest is made within days. The sheriff also says "citizens in the area where the crime took place can now rest assured that Malveaux will not be terrorizing their community anymore, and will be off the streets of St Landry Parish for a very long time once he is convicted." Meanwhile, the victim's family thanked the sheriff's department for a quick arrest, and the community for their support.

"I would like to say thank you channel 10 and thank you to police officers for saving my great-great grandmother and I hope that she feels better."

Malveaux is being charged with a number of serious crimes, including aggravated rape, aggravated robbery, and aggravated kidnapping.

The woman told Eyewitness news exclusively Malveaux broke through her back door late Saturday night, robbed her at knifepoint, and sexually assaulted her.

Malveaux had served prison time for carnal knowledge of a juvenile, and is currently in custody at the St Landry Parish Jail.

It's a shocking and senseless act of violence out of Lawtell.

A widowed grandmother, who raised several children in the same Lawtell home she's lived in since she was seventeen, was asleep alone in her bedroom, when a man burst through the door demanding money and sex from her.

That was the case over the weekend in Lawtell, now the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Department is investigating the crime.

We spoke with the 80 year old victim as she describes her horrifying night, when she says a man kicked in her door, held her at knifepoint, robbed her and sexually assaulted her.

The elderly victim describes her terrifying experience to TV10: "I said how you feel if someone do that with your mama or sister? he said you don't want to listen, I'll have to hurt you. I said ok, ok, I begged him please don't hurt me."

The St Landry Sheriff's Department has, Brian Keith Malveaux, being held as a person of interest. He has not been charged with anything as of now. The law states Malveaux can be held for up to 72 hours as authorities conduct their investigation.
