The City of Ville Platte will soon start construction on a new million dollar recreational center. This is possible thanks to funding from the latest legislative session.
After several years of trying, Ville Platte finally secured funding for the new center and baseball facility that will soon replace the outgrown, old facility.
The old recreational facility is only 1/5 the size of the proposed new one. The proposal for the new 58 acre facility calls for at least 8 baseball fields. Four for boys, and four for girls, along with a soccer field.
State Senator's Mike Michot and Eric Lafleur helped secure the funding.
Lafleur says the 1.6 million dollars that was allocated during the last legislative session should cover three-fourths of the total project.
Once plans are finalized, officials expect the construction to begin within a year.
