The bill that would have banned smoking in Louisiana bars and gambling facilities was overwhelmingly voted down.
The Louisiana house voted 71 to 29 despite support in the State Senate.
If the bill would have passed, it would have added bars and casinos to the list of restaurants, public places and public buildings that forbid smoking.
Supporters say the bill protects from health problems tied to secondhand smoke.
Meanwhile, opponents say people can choose whether to work at a bar or casino and patrons can choose whether to frequent them.
